The Bridgeport High School will provide opportunities that cater to the academic, moral, spiritual, physical, cultural, technological, and social development of every child, thus enabling him/her to become a responsible and productive global citizen.

Our History

On the 27th of September 1978, Portmore gave birth to Bridgeport Secondary School with a total of 228 students (107 boys and 121 girls) and 28 members of staff. The school was built by West Indies Home Contractors Limited to accomodate five hundred (500) students. Since then the name was changed from Bridgeport Secondary to Bridgeport Comprehensive High in 1991, when the school got its first batch of Common Entrance students. The school has since been reclassified to Bridgeport High School in September 2000, under the Ministry of Education reclassfication of secondary education. Until September 1, 2025 the school operated on shift and extended systems, but now it operates within regular schooling hours.

School Pledge

I pledge to give my best to Bridgeport High School.

I will always conduct myself in a courteous, reliable, upright manner and at all times make sure that I am properuly attired. I will respect myself and others, obeserve all school rules and strive for excellence in all my endeavours.

I promise to work relentlessly in helping to uphold the moral and educational goals of the school family, and play my part in establishing love and harmony so that under God, our school and the wider Jamaican society may be healthy, happy, pleasant and peaceful.

The School Crest

Bridgeport High School's crest was created by our first principal, Mrs. Dyona Mclean. Our Motto "Total education" is embedded in our crest to represent our school offering total education and total growth of our students in academics, cultural, athletics, social and spiritual development. The crest bears a path leading through the dome's entrance to the horizon which signifies and inspires greatness for our students as they pass through the dome (our school's landmark) gives equal prominence for each student to excel in their endeavours either locally, territorially or internationally.

The Core Values of Bridgeport

Our actions at this institution are guided by our core values. These should be practiced continuously by all stakeholders to access the total education provided for all personalities and by extension, cultivating a culture of excellence.

Boldness - To be prepared to face challenges knowing that we must dare to be successful. We will progress without fear of failure and we will think positively even in the face of adversity.
Respect - To execute in all cases good morals, values and attitudes related to self, and towards other students, memebers of staff, parents and all other stakeholders. We will always respect the rights and needs of others, and be cordial, modest and courteous in our everyday activites.
Integrity - To show adherence to the moral and ethical principles of our institution. We will strive to be honest in our interactions and adhere to the standards established by our institution.
Discipline - To act in accordance with the rules of our school. We will endeavour to respect and obey the school rules so that we may become role models on and off the compound.
Gratitude - To be thankful and appreciative of the blessing afforded us as individuals and those bestowed on our school. We will show gratitude always to God and to all our stakeholders.
Excellence - In teaching, learning and achieving to be the best we can be through diligence, hardwork and determination with a spirit of tenacity, high achievement and cooperation in reaching our goals.
Productivity - Sincere to the task of producing good results as we channel our abilities in positive direction, through sports, academics and skills that wil bring about quality results, useful increase and growth in our pursuits.
Optimism - To see the brighter side. We will try to see the positive when things go contrary to our expectations. We will exude positivity and confidence as we strive for excellence.
Resilience - To respond well to crisis. We will nto be daunted by crises. We will overcome the hurdles and emerge the better for it all. We have done this before and we will continue to do it. We are winners!
Total Education - The Bridgeport High School promotes a holistic approach towards our students' learning experiences and development. The school provides opportunities that cater to every student in his/her academic, moral, spiritual, physical, cultural, technological, and social development. We foster the growth of our young ladies and young men so they may identify their self-worth and become rounded individuals of great integrity.
